Inquiry Science Lab Instructions

When I was looking for inquiry teaching methods for science, I found these web sites that really helped along the process.

Take a Look

  1. I haven't looked at those links yet, but my one experience doing a science inquiry activity was with 6th graders in an Outdoor School program.

The afternoon activity on my field study involved hiking through a forest and determining if it was "old growth" or not.

The students were given three basic criteria for determining old growth and tools for measuring those criteria, along with a clipboard full of questions through which to structure data collection. At the end of each afternoon, the groups of students were asked to present their conclusions to the larger group.

Although most science teachers likely won't have forests to use as classrooms, the data collection portion might be used for a variety of activities.

  2. Trent,

I haven't had a chance to look at these websites yet. I am glad you have found some good resources for science and it is good to incorporate sceince into the vocational agricultural program too.

Thanks for coming to Condon! there are lots of outdoor hands on science opportunities around here.

  4. The first link - thirteen.org - was excellent! It summed up so much of what we have been learning in many of our MTE classes. It gives a multiple learning style approach in an intercurricular way. I am finding that the more I allow students to explore the "how" they are more interested in the "what."

The other two links are ones that I had used for our inquiry assignment in our methods class. They are great resources! Hope all is well in Condon!
