Fun
I started teaching Ag last week in a school that had very little previous instruction from the Ag teacher. I was pleasantly surprised when the students were excited about learning something, anything, whatever I had to teach them. Its funny that kids will complain about having to learn, do homework, class assignments, and so forth but if they don't get any instruction at all they miss it and want to learn. Its been great so far because every strategy I have tried has worked great...Just because the students really want to learn something.

I just have to share with you something that i heard in my classroom the other day. We were sitting there and this girl was complaining about the snow, my teacher said something about needing the snow in the mt.s so that we can have water for the trees, plants, and so forth. her response...well i dont like snow. i will just fill up water in a jug at my house and take it into the mt. later. boy was i shocked. i mean this is 11th grade! but then i was proud becuase all of the FFA students in class turned to look...and finally explain why that wouldnt work! made me think of you and your oh so important mini lesson!
ReplyDeleteThat's great. The truth is all kids want to learn, even if they say differently as their minds are starving for new information. As my boss in Korea always said "Keep up the good work!"
ReplyDeleteTRENT! I don't think you should steal your nieces Wii remotes... not a good idea! :)
ReplyDeleteIt was nice seeing you in class... It makes me realize how much I really miss LUNCH TIME with you and Megan. It's just not the same at Imbler without you.
I am excited that you got an AG job at Condon! How are you liking it? I could imagine those students were ready to learn something, when AG is typically a fun class and from what I heard they weren't doing jack diddly squat previously! :)
Hope all is well and have a wonderful spring term!
I find that in all aspects of being some kind of student. No matter what you are a student of. My athletes sometimes do not like to come to practice and do the hard work but when told what to do they grumble, but they really want to be told what to do. It is form of accountability and motivation that we need but sometimes do not necessarily want. We are just weird that way!
